Funeral arrangements of veteran actor Joe

The funeral of world renowned actor Joe Abeywickrama, who passed away Wednesday at the age of 84, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday (23) at the General Cemetery in Borella.

His remains were brought to the Jayaratne Funeral Parlour at noon yesterday for the public to pay their last respects. The body will lie at the National Art Gallery from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday for artistes and other VIPs to pay their last respects.

Abeywickrama, who began acting in 1957 as a comedic actor, had more than 100 films to his credit.

He was the only Sri Lankan actor to win an international award for the ‘Best Asian Actor’ at the 1999 Singapore International Film Festival.
