Galle Mayor suspended

The Mayor of the Galle Municipal Council Methsiri de Silva has been suspended with immediate effect, the government information department reported.

The Mayor of Sri Lanka’s southern coastal city has been removed from his post reportedly over allegations of fraud and corruption.

Chief Minister of the Southern Province, Shan Wijeyalal de Silva has announced the decision to remove the ruling United People’s Freedom party (UPFA) Mayor in a special gazette notification.

The Deputy Mayor of the Galle MC, Mohammed Husain Fowzul Niyas has been appointed as Acting Mayor.
