Speaking on the most recent developments and the resignation of President Nasheed, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Michael Link said, “The German Government has taken note of the recent developments in the Maldives leading to the resignation of President Nasheed.

As the first ever democratically elected president of the country, Mohamed Nasheed has earned respect and recognition.

The German Government strongly appeals to all parties to respect the democratic and constitutional principles in this critical juncture.

All parties are called upon to strengthen the Maldivian democracy and rule of law and to ensure that there is no return to a system of one-party-rule.”
