Germany pledges development assistance

Government of Germany has pledged cooperation towards Sri Lanka’s endeavor to achieve its development goals, the Finance Ministry said in a statement.

The Government of Germany will extend its full cooperation to the Sri Lankan Government in its endeavors to achieve the set 06-02development goals under the good governance policy of the Government; Ambassador of Germany to Sri Lanka Jorn Rohde was quoted as saying in the statement.

German Ambassador Rohde made the announcement when he met Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake at the Ministry of Finance on Friday.

The German ambassador also stated that several top level entrepreneurs from his country are anticipating investing in Sri Lanka and it is of paramount importance to provide them necessary infrastructure facilities and diplomatic assistance in that regard.

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake pointed out in the meeting with Ambassador Rohde that the attention paid by the German Government towards Sri Lanka is very important. He also said that several leading countries have already consented to invest in different sectors in Sri Lanka and a share of contribution by Germany is also important at this juncture.

At the same time, Minister Karunanayake acknowledged the assistance already given by the Government of Germany to Sri Lanka for its economic development.
