GL to India to discuss the UN panel report

External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris will leave for India soon, possibly on 15 May, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

The Minister is expected to hold discussions on strengthening the relationship with India and also the impact of the UN panel report on Sri Lanka.

The Ministry is busy scheduling meetings for the External Affairs Minister with the Indian leaders, sources say.



India has so far not expressed its opinion regarding the report saying it needs time to study the report.

Several other senior Ministers have also planned to visit India in a bid to strengthen the ties with that country.

Minister Peiris is to leave for Bali in Indonesia to participate in the foreign ministers summit of the Non-aligned Movement that will be held on 26-27 May. He has planned to discuss the UN panel report with the foreign ministers of the non-aligned countries as well.
