President Sirisena said according to the present Constitution of the country the good governance government cannot be shaken until five years and political conspiracies will not achieve desired results.

The President  speaking during a mobile service program held in Polonnaruwa on Saturday, said the good governance government led by the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has won the admiration of many due to its commitment to work for the common people and it will not be threatened through protest marches.

He affirmed that despite praise and criticism the Government and the Prime Minister are stable for the next five years.

Pointing out that one has to face the consequences of one’s actions even if being at the throne, the President commented that certain people, who were like kings in the past, now have to walk on the streets.

Speaking at the occasion, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the two parties have committed themselves to develop the country by coming together as Buddha has said “meet peacefully to discuss peacefully and to disperse peacefully.”

Good governance commenced under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena and results can be seen now, the Premier said adding that the development plans for the North will be in place next year.

He pointed out that the whole Parliament has been made a Government where anyone can express their views and everyone has to move forward together.

The conclusion ceremony of the National Mobile Service program in the Polonnaruwa District was held Saturday at the Polonnaruwa Royal College under the patronage of the President and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The month-long program organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs from 1st July covered three electoral divisions and seven divisional secretariats in the Polonnaruwa district.

During the service period, about 40,000 of 44,000 problems forwarded by the people to the service have been resolved and land deeds for sacred areas in the Polonnaruwa District had been given. At the occasion, water filters and self-employment equipment for the self-employed families were handed over while presentation of “Sisu Diriya” scholarships and several other programs also took place.

PM says Govt. to initiate massive development projects next year

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the unity government will initiate massive development projects next year.

Addressing the media during a mobile service program in Polonnaruwa on Saturday, the Prime Minister said several large-scale development projects would be launched in the Polonnaruwa and Trincomalee districts. Development plans for the North would be in place next year, he added.

Reaffirming that both the United National Party and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in the unity government were committed and in agreement to develop the country, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said the Government would ink several agreements before the end of this year and commence large-scale projects in January 2017.

He said the projects were only possible due to the unity and understanding between the two main political parties in the country.

The Premier explained that due to the armed conflict and divisions in political parties in the South, development was severely affected and sustainable development initiatives in the country were restricted.

He claimed that several factions were attempting to create divisions in the unity government and disrupt the Government’s development plans for the next five years.

The Prime Minister said he was not surprised by such attempts stating that even in Sri Lankan history Princess Sugala, who came from Hambantota, staged a rebellion and reversed the development of the country when King Parakramabahu was developing the country.

The Prime Minister said that despite such attempts the Government had to move forward together for the benefit of the people.
