The Government says it has ensured immediate action over some “isolated incidents” to protect media freedom in the country. Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella was quoted by his Ministry as saying that the Opposition was attempting to highlight isolated incidents as threats to media freedom. Minister Rambukwella also said that the Government has ensured the smooth functioning of law and order in the country. Meanwhile, the Minister also said that certain elements among the international community were raising doubts on the security and law and order situation in the country. Minister Rambukwella said that the Commonwealth summit in November will be the best opportunity for Sri Lanka to showcase the true image inclusive of the post-war development process and the current peaceful environment within the country. “I am happy to note that all foreign dignitaries and delegations who visited Sri Lanka during the recent past highly commended not only the physical but also the human development in the country in the post-war scenario. Since 54 heads of governments, foreign ministers and high ranking dignitaries will be visiting Sri Lanka during CHOGM 2013, they can witness the massive transformation that has taken place in the north and east. It is the ideal situation to give the world the real picture of Sri Lanka after the era of conflict,” he said. (Colombo Gazette)
