Government launches accelerated development programmes in Anuradhapura ahead of Deyata Kirula exhibi

Anuradhapura: The government has launched an accelerated development programme in the Anuradhapura district in preparation for the 2012 Deyata Kirula national development exhibition in February 2012.

Integrated development programmes in the Horowapathana, Mihintale, Kekirawa, Kalawewa west and Anuradhapura east electorates commenced yesterday, the state-run radio SLBC announced.

Addressing the district coordination committee meeting held at the CTC meeting hall in Anuradhapura yesterday, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said the Government had allocated Rs.1.38 billion for the development of 702 Grama Seva divisions in the Anuradhapura district.

According to the Minister, an additional Rs. 4.69 billion will be allocated for development activities to be conducted by his ministry in the Anuradhapura district within the next five months. Rs. 2.6 billion has been allocated for road development in the district.

The 6th Deyata Kirula National Development Exhibition is to be held at Oya Maduwa area in the Anuradhapura district in 4 February, 2012, parallel to the Independence Day celebrations.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa last month visited the district to inspect the site of the exhibition and instructed the relevant authorities to take measures to accelerate the development projects in the area. (www.colmbopage.com)
