Governors’ Conference in Jaffna

The XV Governors’ Conference was held on Thursday in Jaffna for the first time turning a new page in the history of Sri Lanka.

The event ceremonially commenced with traditional Hindu religious observances at Tilko Jaffna City Hotel. King coconut plants were also planted as a symbolic gesture to mark the ‘Deyata Sevana’ national tree planting campaign.

Governor of the Northern Province as the chairperson of the event inaugurated the Conference. During the deliberations many important matters were taken up for discussions. A number of fruitful decisions were taken for the future developments of the Jaffna district.

Following the discussions the officials made visits to important places in Jaffna to witness the progress of the various developing projects.

Religious dignitaries, senior security forces and police officials, governor of the Central Bank and other government officials were present at the occasion.

In parallel to the conference, “Northern Province Exhibition 2012” was also held focusing on the development of the north, at the Jaffna Municipal Council grounds. The exhibition portrayed the development on the aspects of health, housing infrastructure, transport, education, food, public service and industries in the Northern Province. The general public in their numbers are visiting the exhibition every day.
