Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights has said that necessary steps have been taken to provide immediate relief to the people affected by the heavy rains currently experienced in the country.
Disaster Management Minister A.H.M. Fowzie has told the local media Sunday that necessary steps have been taken to immediately supply flood relief to people affected by floods and landslides due to the heavy rains.
The Disaster Management Centre has said that some parts of the country are under a flood threat as the water levels of the Kalu, Kelani and Nilwala Rivers and Attanagalu Oya were rising. The Kelani River had overflowed in Malwana and Biyagama areas, The Centre warned that a continuation of the downpour would result in more floods.
Minister Fowzie has said that Assistant Government Agent’s (AGA) offices and Government Agent’s offices have been informed of the Ministry’s moves and that there was no shortage of funds allocated for disaster relief. – ColomboPage
