The Government yesterday insisted that the proposed Office on Missing Persons (OMP) would not be used to take action against the military over the war.

Minister of National Dialogue Mano Ganesan said that the issue of missing persons was not one which affected people in the North alone but even those from the country’s South.

The Minister said the Government had decided to establish an Office on Missing Persons to address the issue of missing persons.

However, he said the Joint Opposition was attempting to give the impression that the Office on Missing Persons was being established to betray the military.  Ganeshan denied the claim and insisted that the OMP was being established to resolve the issue of missing persons once and for all.
