The Government has agreed before the Supreme Court to suspend the registration of people in the North by the military.
The Attorney General gave an undertaking in the Supreme Court to suspend what has been termed as forced registration process.
The undertaking was made following the filing of a fundamental rights petition by a group of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) legislators seeking to stop the registration of residents in Jaffna and Kilinochchi Districts by the security forces.
A three-member panel of judges consisting Justices N.G. Amaratunga, P.A. Ratnayake and Chandra Ekanayaka heard the petition.
