Govt. taking every possible effort to provide what is required for people: President

The Government is taking every possible effort to provide what is required for the people, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the inauguration of the central functioning building complex of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital on Wednesday.

President Rajapaksa said the people do not see what the Government has done for them and they are also in the habit of pointing out shortcomings.

He insisted that the Government is providing what is needed for the people, irrespective of the remarks made by the Opposition and is in the process of rebuilding everything destroyed by the terrorists over a period of three decades.

This building complex comprises eight surgical theatres, an ICU unit, laboratory, early cancer detection centre and many other facilities. The main objective of this project is to upgrade and reconstruct the health facilities in the Jaffna district. Around 550,000 people in Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts will benefit from this project.

Addressing the gathering, the President further said that freedom is the greatest gift that the public can have, and stressed the Government ensures the people’s right to live in the country free from fear and intimidation.

The President said funds spent on health is an investment for the development of the country and said that in 2013, Rs. 125 billion had been allocated for health services. He also said that the aim of the Government is to provide equal health facilitates to all.

President Rajapaksa expressed his gratitude to the Government and the people of Japan for providing assistance for the construction of the new wing of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
