Govt. to complete 886 mobile services in Uva

Arrangements have been made to complete 886 mobile services launched in the Uva Province under the Village-to-Village, House-to-House

National Program to solve problems of the rural population within three months. Forty-six of these mobile services have already been completed. Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa is directing the program to solve the problems of nearly 1.3 million people living in 26 Secretarial Divisions of 12 electorates in the Badulla and Moneragala Districts. A total of 18,483 villagers, 184 people’s representatives, representatives of 780 community organisations, 18 NGOs, 42 private entrepreneurs and 4,489 officials of 35 Government Ministries attended the 45 mobile service held until 13 June. Following the success of the mobile services held in the Kegalle, Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts, they have been extended to the Badulla and Monaragala Districts in the Uva Province, Galle, Matara and Hambantota in the Southern Province and to the Ratnapura District. In the Uva Province most of the problems relating to issuing of birth, marriage and death certificates, National Identity Cards, passports, requests for spectacles, walking aids, wheel chairs, lands, housing, health, agriculture, fisheries and animal husbandry were solved by the mobile services last week, according to Monaragala District Secretary A. Padmanathan and Badulla District Secretary Rohana Dissanayake. The highest public participation was noted in programs on health clinics, maternal and child nutrition, food preparation, beauty culture, prevention of drug addiction, shramadana and religion and the environment.
