Even though the UPFA lost the Colombo Municipal Council, it is not a barrier to develop the city of Colombo.  Colombo is every Sri Lankan’s capital city and Government will continue the development process in Colombo City as planned, the United People’s Freedom Alliance said yesterday.

The United National Party (UNP) secured the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) by polling 101,920 votes, 43.01% of the total.

However, the Government accepts the opinion of the people in the Colombo Municipality, Minister Dulles Alahapperuma addressing a media briefing said, adding, “We accept that there is no change in the percentage of the votes which is 32.53%, but we can see a slight increase in the number of votes comparing to the previous elections.”

The understanding between the Government and the authorities of Colombo Municipal Council is necessary to maintain essential administrative work and carry out development moves, the Minister stressed.
