The Hambantota Magistrate yesterday remanded the Mayor of the Hambantota Municipal Council, Eraj Fernando, for a day.
Fernando was arrested last morning for allegedly attempting to assault a suspect in police custody in March 2014.
On 28 March 2014, three individuals, including a member of the Hambantota Pradeshiya Sabha, were injured following the clash that broke out between two groups in Ambalantota.
