Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development, participated in the Hambantota District Coordination Committee meeting on 19 August 2011, at the Singapore Hall in Hambantota.
Over Rs. 2.9 billion was allocated for the development activities in Hambantota District this year. The progress of the current development projects in the district were also evaluated.
Addressing the meeting Minister Rajapaksa stated that the Government would give priority to develop the fisheries industry and dairy farm sector in the Hambantota District under the Divi Naguma Programme. The aim of these projects is to develop the livelihood of the general public in the Hambantota District, the Minister said.
S.M. Chandrasena, Minister of Wildlife and Agrarian Services; Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Disaster Management; Shan Wijaya Lal De Silva, Chief Minister of the Southern Province; MPs Namal Rajapaksa; Kamala Ranathunga, and V.K. Indika, also participated at this meeting.
