By Ashwin Hemmathagama Our Lobby Correspondent Chief Opposition Whip in Parliament MP John Amaratunga yesterday grilled the Government to reveal the involvement of Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne in the largest heroin bust, which took place a few months ago. “Jathika Hela Urumaya, a stakeholder of your Government, seeks the arrest of the Prime Minister for his involvement,” said MP Amaratunga. “The media has reported a serious statement from a monk in the JHU seeking the arrest of the Prime Minister and also requests him to stay at home if disabilities and ailments due to old age prevent him from performing the duties. I can’t believe this statement aimed at a veteran politician,” he said. “What would the public think when such statement is issued by a stakeholder of your Government? This news will travel around the world. Where would Parliament end at this stage? How can we run a country when they seek the arrest of the Prime Minister? Based on this report I trust you haven’t arrested the Prime Minister already. He is not in the House,” added MP Amaratunga.
