A high level Sri Lankan government delegation is scheduled to visit India next month for discussions with Indian government officials.

The Sri Lankan delegation led by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa is to visit India on August 24th.

A senior government minister said that Minister Rajapaksa would be accompanied by Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

The minister told ColomboPage that the visit of the high level government delegation to India would be the first since the adoption of a US sponsored resolution on Sri Lanka at the 19th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva this year.

“The visit is aimed at strengthening Indo-Lanka ties and to discuss the current situation in Sri Lanka and the progress made since the end of the war in every aspect including reconciliation,” the senior minister said.

The government is now engaged in re-building strained relations with India prior to the UPR since India is a member of the troika appointed to oversee Sri Lanka’s UPR in November.
