Hirunika, 8 others indicted and granted bail in abduction case

UNF Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra and eight others were served indictments by the Colombo High Court yesterday, over an abduction case in Dematagoda in 2015.

Personnel assigned to Premachandra’s security are also among the accused in the case.

High Court Judge Padmini Ranawaka also impounded the passports of the accused and fixed the case for 10 January 2017. The High Court Judge warned the suspects to refrain from interfering with witnesses or risk having their bail annulled by court.

All nine accused were subsequently released on bail worth Rs. 50,000 and personal sureties of Rs. 500,000 each.

The victim Amila Priyanga was abducted in a Defender vehicle in the Dematagoda area on 21 December 2015. Police investigations discovered CCTV footage which allowed them to arrest the suspects. 

The orders to abduct Priyanga were issued by Premachandra, investigations revealed. The Attorney General has filed indictments against the nine suspects on 29 counts.
