The Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission has completed its investigation into the tragedy at Weliweriya on 1 August, when a civilian demonstration demanding water was fired upon by armed soldiers. Three civilians including two schoolboys were killed in gunfire by troops sent in to quash the demonstration against contaminated ground water in the area. A report on the investigation is expected to be released soon, the Commissioner Dr. Prathibha Mahanama said yesterday. He said the report had been compiled based on interviews with villagers, troops, journalists, correspondents and religious leaders in the area.
