Hours after the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution against Sri Lanka pushing for reconciliation and improvement of the country’s human rights record, the Criminal Investigations Department raided the office of Leader of the Muslim and Tamil National Alliance Azath Salley yesterday.

Police are seeking the Muslim politician’s arrest and have asked him to call over at the Colombo Crimes Division in Dematagoda tomorrow, the politician’s brother Riyaz Salley said.

Azath Salley recently wrote to UN Chief Ban Ki Moon to complain about the ongoing harassment of Muslims in Sri Lanka in violation of the UN Charter. In his letter, Salley warned of an ‘impending holocaust’ and urged the UN Secretary General to force the Government of Sri Lanka to act against the discrimination of the Muslim community.

The Bodu Bala Sena group recently threatened Salley with legal action for statements made regarding the group’s incitement of anti-Muslim campaigns in the island.
