The Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, D.C., United States, representing Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and Bhutan, Dr. Rakesh Mohan called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the evening of 30 July at Temple Trees. Dr. Mohan, commenting on the Government’s initiatives toward rapid infrastructure development, said that it was a very wise decision to put in place development plans that focus on the medium and long term and not just the short term. He also said he was “delighted to see that” because it is very seldom that countries implement such long-term strategies. The discussion between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Dr. Mohan also focused on how Sri Lanka could benefit from BRICS. Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal was also present for the meeting. Pix by Chandana Perera
