Commissioner-General of Prisons H.M.N.C. Dhanasinghe was asked to submit an immediate report within two days regarding an alleged incident of a mobile phone belonging to ex-President’s son Yoshitha Rajapaksa held at Welikada Prison.

The call for a report follows an article published in a weekend newspaper that a mobile phone was found in the possession of Yoshitha Rajapaksa inside jail. That article had described the mobile phone as having fallen out of his pocket when he was returning to his cell after he met his father at the prison.

Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs Minister D. M. Swaminathan has ordered the Prison Commissioner to conduct an investigation about the incident related in the published newspaper article. (CG)
