A two-day international conference on India-Sri Lanka relations will be held at Osmania University in Hyderabad, India on 8 and 9 November. The conference on ‘India-Sri Lanka Relations: Strengthening SAARC’ has been organised by the Centre for Indian Ocean Studies (CIOS) at the Osmania University.
The objective of the conference is to appraise the role of SAARC in the economic betterment of the region in promoting India-Sri Lanka relations and also strengthening future relations, and initiating co-ordination and cooperation in the region for development in critical areas, according to the organisers. The conference will attempt to reflect on methods and means to promote an environment of peace security, mutual cooperation and coordination of the SAARC region through India-Sri Lanka canvas, the CIOS said.
Some of the themes that will be covered include India-Sri Lanka economic cooperation and trade relations, plurality and Diaspora, security concerns: promoting bilateral, trilateral and multilateral cooperation, urban-regional development and planning, natural resources management in SAARC – possibilities for trade lobbies, national hazards, disasters and management, human rights and regionalism.
