The countdown to the Army-organised international Defence Seminar on 5Rs (Reconstruction, Resettlement, Rehabilitation, Reintegration and Reconciliation) has begun as more and more invitees continue to confirm their participation.

High-profile foreign statesmen and experts, diplomats, secretaries, policy makers, foreign defence chiefs, foreign service commanders, state officials, academics and a gathering of resource personnel of more than 40 countries, are scheduled to attend the three-day (8 to 10 August) seminar sessions, themed on ‘Towards Lasting Peace and Stability’ at Colombo Galadari Hotel.

The second of its kind in Sri Lanka after culmination of the war is being given final touches on the directions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya as of Friday (3) in consultation with the Secretary Defence, the brainchild behind the realisation of the whole project.

While learning the ocean of experiences, gained by the Army during the conflict and particularly in the aftermath of the war, the attendees will share views and transparent deliberations on 5Rs, exploring possibilities of transcending beyond traditional approaches for Sri Lanka’s durable peace, stability and prosperity.

Last year, the first-ever defence seminar, ‘Defeating Terrorism – The Sri Lankan Experience’ got underway at the same hotel with the participation of over 80 delegates representing 41 countries.
