Iran congratulates Maithri, wants stronger ties with Lanka

Iran hopes to expand bilateral ties with Sri Lanka “more than ever before”, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said while congratulating his counterpart President Maithripala Sirisena. In a message addressed to President Sirisena, President Rouhani congratulated him on winning the election and expressed hope for expansion of bilateral ties more than ever before, Iran’s official news agency IRNA said in a release.  “I sincerely congratulate Your Excellency’s election as the president of the friend country, Sri Lanka,” wrote President Rouhani in his message.   “I hope in the new chapter that will be opened with the elected choice of the Sri Lankan nation and the responsibility they have given to Your Excellency the historical, friendly relations between our two countries and close cooperation in various field will expand more than ever before,” the Iranian President added. The presidential congratulation message ends with Rouhani praying to God for the good health and success of his exalted counterpart and the prosperity and wellbeing of the Sri Lankan Government and nation.
