Japan extends emergency assistance to Sri Lanka landslides disaster

Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Fumio Kishida on Thursday sent messages to President Maithripala Sirisena and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka Mangala Samaraweera respectively, extending condolences and sympathies to the affected people, wishing for rapid rehabilitation and reconstruction of the affected areas, and conveying Japan’s readiness to provide assistance.

The Government of Japan has also agreed to provide emergency relief goods (plastic sheets, water purification units, generators, etc.) to Sri Lanka, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to a request from Sri Lanka in light of the friendly relations between the two countries.
