The Japanese Government has granted Rs. 42 million (US$ 373,200) for mine clearance work in the Northern Kilinochchi District.
The funding was granted through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects called as the GGP.
Japanese Ambassador Kunio Takahashi has said the project would accelerate de-mining activities in the district to create a safe environment for around 5,000 persons.
The Japanese Government currently focuses its GGP on livelihood improvement support, humanitarian de-mining for early resettlement of IDPs and uplifting the lives of people in rural areas.
