Japan’s envoy says Presidential Election free of violence

Japanese Ambassador in Sri Lanka Nobuhito Hobo told Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa on Wednesday (January 7th) that according to Japanese media personnel who have toured several districts of the island that the Presidential Election is being held peacefully with no signs of violence. At the discussion held at the Economic Development Ministry Ambassador  Hobo highly appreciated the development work taking place in the country and assured that Japan-Sri Lanka friendship would be further strengthened in the coming months and years. Minister Rajapaksa said over 1.5 million tourists visited the island last year and the arrival of Japanese tourists had increased by 30 percent.  In 2015 the Government hopes to increase it by 100 percent, according to the Minister. The Japanese Ambassador said he was happy to observe during a visit to Kalpitiya and Beruwala this week the improved infrastructure facilities and progress of the tourism industry.
