Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa is expected to discuss Sri Lanka when she meets Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday in New Delhi. Jayalalithaa had raised her objection to the invitation sent by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to President Mahinda Rajapaksa for Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. The Tamil Nadu CM had skipped the event, which was attended by high profile dignitaries, including all SAARC leaders. Zee News quoted reports as saying that the equations between Jayalalithaa and Modi could change if the newly-elected NDA Government chooses to opt a different line than AIADMK over the contentious Tamils issue. On 22 May, the AIADMK Chief had dubbed as “unfortunate” the PM-designate Modi’s invite to Rajapaksa, adding that the “ill-advised” move could have been avoided as it amounted to “rubbing salt into the wounds of the already deeply injured Tamil psyche”.
