Jayalalithaa’s Verdict: Subramanian Swamy says higher courts will serve justice

Lawyers of J. Jayalalithaa have moved the Karnataka High Court for granting bail to the AIADMK leader who has been convicted in connection to a disproportionate assets case. But BJP leader Subramanian Swamy is confident that justice will be served and the higher courts will uphold her decision to appeal against the verdict. Terming the Bangalore Special Court’s verdict on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa as a “perfectly correct” judgment, Swamy on Sunday said that although Jayalalithaa can appeal against the verdict in the higher courts, she will not succeed. “Let her appeal, it is allowed in the Constitution, all crooks do it, but she is not going to succeed. The court has given a perfectly correct judgment, and I think that all the higher level courts like the High Court and the Supreme Court will uphold this judgment,” Swamy said. Swamy also said that, “In India, it is now possible for a person who does not hold any Government position to be able to go to court and bring down a chief minister who has three fourths majority in the assembly.” He added that, “I had found out that she had decided to take a monthly salary of one rupee; then I got to know that her personal assets were more than 50 crores. Therefore I wrote a complaint letter to the Sessions Court regarding this.” On Saturday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was sentenced to serve four years in jail and asked to pay a fine INR 100 crores in connection with a disproportionate assets case by a Bangalore Special Court.
