The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) yesterday called on the Government to dissolve the Northern Provincial Council (NPC). The JHU which is a key constituent in the ruling UPFA coalition Government said the Governor of the Northern Province should dissolve the council as a result of the recent resolution adopted calling for an international war crimes investigation, during a press briefing yesterday. The NPC had adopted three resolutions on Monday including one supporting an international probe on war crimes and another calling for a UN probe on the Mannar mass grave. JHU member Udaya Gamanpilla said that the TNA dominated council is working against national interests. He said that most TNA members in the NPC are still working according to the agenda of the LTTE. The former Western Provincial Council member said that the Government must also ban all groups and organisations that still promote the LTTE ideology. (Colombo Gazette)
