Johnston granted bail

Former Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando was granted cash and surety bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday. 

He was granted bail over five cases filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against him for not declaring his assets in between 2010-2014. He was released on a cash bail of Rs. 10,000 and one surety bails worth Rs. 1 million per case.

Further hearings of the case were fixed for 27 April 2016 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya. 

Fernando was arrested by the Financial Crime Investigations Division (FCID) in May this year over alleged financial irregularities at the state-owned wholesale network Lanka Sathosa during his tenure as the Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister.
