The Joint Opposition yesterday demanded an unbiased and transparent investigation into the explosives found from Vallakulam, Chavakachcheri.

Speaking at a media briefing MP Professor G.L. Peiris claimed the Government should not try to water down the risk of the incident.

“The Government should conduct a proper investigation about those explosives without hiding the truth from the public. We must find out whether this incident was part of a terrorist plot,” he claimed.

Peiris also said they had information that these explosives were kept in Chavakachcheri to deliver to Wellawatta.

Condemning the Government’s alleged moves to remove army camps from Northern and Eastern provinces Peiris charged it will result in a national security at a risk.

“The Government’s expectation to abolish the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) will pave the path for LTTE to rebuild. We urge the State to stop that kind of unsuitable action,” he noted.

Yesterday the Police recovered one suicide jacket; three parcels contained 12kg of TNT explosive, 100 bullets and batteries from a house in Vallakulam. Police found them during a search  based on information received about hidden drugs.
