Criticising the new appointments of SLFP district organisers, the Joint Opposition yesterday alleged most of those appointments were “unsuitable.”

MP Bandula Gunawardena claimed President Sirisena had appointed unsuitable persons who do not have a strong vote base as organisers.

“Some of the best SLFP organisers have been replaced by weak organisers who were defeated in several past elections. I believe this decision was taken to bring down the party to serve the UNP’s interest,” he charged.

President Sirisena on Monday removed several district organisers from their positions including Prasanna Ranatunga, Dilum Amunugama, Maharagama Mayor Kanthi Kodikara, Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Mayor Danasiri Amaratunge and Kolonnawa organiser Duminda Silva, and appointed Ruwan Ranatunga, Provincial Councilor Thilina Thennakoon, Western Province Chief Minister Isuru Devapriya, Lawyer Keerthi Udawatta and Mulleriyawa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Prasanna Solangaarachchi for the vacated positions.
