Justice Ministry to implement structural changes in judicial sector – Hakeem

Minister of Justice and SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem states that it is the responsibility of public officers and employees is to give their fullest cooperation to President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his Government.



Addressing the officers of the Ministry of Justice on Monday (2) morning at the ceremony for the commencement of the duties in the new year, the Minister made these observations.

The ceremony commenced after reading the public servants’ affirmation. “The Ministry expects to implement structural changes in the judicial sector during this year. Arrangements will be made to present Parliament certain Bills which were not presented to it, for its approval last year. The aim of these acts is to create a people friendly change. Apart from providing the infrastructure facilities, many other facilities should be provided by the Ministry to the judicial sector. These measures will ensure relief for the litigants who undergo hardships due backlog of cases. Budgetary proposals for the year emphasise the need to dispose this backlog,” the Minister said, adding, “As in the case of other Ministries, the financial resources allocated in the Budget may be inadequate. However, the available resources should be utilised to gain maximum benefits.”

He also observed, “It is accepted that the expected results however were not gained fully in last year. Therefore, attempts should be made to achieve the expected results so as to ensure the country and as well as the general public have a productive public service,” and requested the officers of the Ministry to dedicate themselves to ensuring an effective public service.

Suhada Gamalath (PC) Secretary to the Ministry and the officers and other employees of the Ministry were present at this ceremony.
