Dissident group members of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) have complained to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) that the police was making contradictory statements over the case of two missing group members, Lalith Kumar Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganathan.

National Organiser of the Movement for People’s Struggle formed by the JVP dissidents and JVP MP Ajith Kumara says that Achchuveli and Kopay Police Stations in the North made contradictory statements about the disappearance of the two persons.

Ajith Kumara has observed that the two police stations were hiding facts about the disappearance and making contradictory statements as a cover up.

In the complaint to the IGP, the parliamentarian has charged that the police have failed to reveal any details about the disappearance as well as how the motor bike they had traveled on the day they went missing was found.

Lalith Kumar and Kugan went missing on the 9th while making arrangements to launch the Movement for People’s Struggle in the North. Kugan’s motorbike was however found on the 12th.

According to the Movement, the police have failed to make any headway in the case. A complaint has also been lodged about the disappearance with the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka.
