The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is to hold its first public rally since the split in the party at Maligawatte today (5 October) with the participation of the party front-liners including leader Somawansa Amarasinghe.
Today’s rally is aimed at addressing three issues including creating awareness of the party’s stance among its membership.
JVP Propaganda Secretary and Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath said the rally would be held with the aim of covering three areas.
He said that the rally would be the final public meeting for the forthcoming local government elections, part of the party’s ongoing protest against the current administration and an awareness campaign for the JVP membership. The rally is considered as a symbolic move of the JVP returning to its normal political work following the recent internal crisis.
Tomorrow’s rally would also be the first to be held following the party’s internal crisis.
According to Herath, the meeting would be held at the P.D. Sirisena Grounds in Maligawatte at 3 p.m. and Attorney and JVP’s mayoral candidate for the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Sunil Watagala will chair the meeting.
