JVP questions involvement of PM’s office in confiscated heroin consignment

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has posed a question to the government on the alleged involvement of the Prime Minister’s Office in the release of the controversial heroin consignment that was confiscated by the Customs Department.
JVP parliamentary group leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake making a special statement in parliament under Standing Order No. 23/2 has said that there was a discussion in the country about the Prime Minister being linked to the recently seized massive heroin consignment by the Customs, which is said to be the largest raided stock of its kind in South Asia.
He has observed that the matter needed to be clarified as the respective raid and the letters reportedly sent by the Prime Minister’s office seeking the release of the stock has raised a controversy among the public.
According to Dissanayake, the letter seeking the release of the stock was sent by a coordinating secretary to the Prime Minister stating it was on behalf of the Premier.
He has added that the government needs to clarify the incident since it involves the Second Citizen of the country.
