The Janathi Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) charged yesterday that the government was acting like a “black market” trader and keeping the benefit of the low global oil prices away from the people.DFT-4-8

“When we look at the policies of the government, we can see that though the government talks about giving relief to the masses, it’s acting like a government which is curtailing relief,” JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva told reporters in Colombo.

He stated that before coming to power they talked about the high tax on oil but after coming to power the government did not even give the public the benefit of the low global oil prices, let alone reduce the tax.

Silva charged that the government has still not presented to the people the formula on preparing the oil price and is keeping it hidden. The government’s formula is to keep the benefits to itself. That was the formula of every previous government.

The JVP General Secretary stated that the Ministers in the government including the Prime Minister are keeping silent with regard to the formula on oil price.

“Is this a government made for the people or a black market government?” he accused the government of exploiting the people in a manner far worse than black market traders.
