The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says it is in talks with members and supporters of the Government and the Opposition to form an alternative people’s front. JVP Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath says the country needs an alternative force to counter the politics of the existing Government and main opposition UNP. Herath says the Mahinda Rajapaksa Government and Ranil Wickremesinghe’s UNP represent a “stinking presidential system” which cannot address the issues faced by the people. “There is a need for an alternative people’s front to address the needs of the people. The JVP has taken steps to meet that need,” he said. The JVP MP says his party is in talks with members and supporters of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, UNP, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and the Tamil National Alliance to help achieve its goal. Herath says the alternative people’s front will not just target an election but will look to go beyond that in order to ensure a change in the country. (Colombo Gazette)
