Sri Lanka’s Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is to hold a massive protest march and rally in Colombo next week. The rally will be held on 6 February after the march at the Hyde Park in Colombo.
Co-convener of the Movement and JVP politburo member K.D. Lal Kantha said the march and the rally are held to protest against the imperialist interventions in the country and the family rule in the country that allows for such interferences. He observed that the imperialist forces used the arbitrary acts of the Government to attempt to intervene in the country’s affairs.
“Therefore, it is the Government that has paved the way for such interventions,” he added. According to Lal Kantha, the Government, when such imperialist interventions take place, tries to satisfy them by offering economic bribes that cost the country.
He noted that the protest march and rally on the 6th would be held with full force in order to build a campaign against the Government’s actions and those of the imperialists before the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions in Geneva next month. (www.colombopage.com)
