JVP to launch massive campaign against Government’s ‘selling process’

Sri Lankan Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has decided to launch a massive agitation campaign on 1 February, with the participation of trade unions and the public, to take action against the Government’s “selling process”, the party said.

“We have already decided to launch a massive agitation campaign connected with the port on 1 February with the participation of trade unions in the port and with the collaboration of other trade unions,” Party Leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said in a comuniqué.

“We would mediate in this task as a political party and the people should rally to halt the destructive move of the Government,” he said.

The party says the Government has sped up the process of selling peoples’ assets.

“Hence, we too should speed up our struggle against such moves. We invite the general public to join the struggle against the Government’s selling process,” said Dissanayake.

The JVP leader noted that the harbours of the country are important national assets and that in deciding economic strategies of a country their geographical location is very important.

He added that the east terminal of Colombo harbour has become one of the main centres of the Government’s economic policy of selling assets.

The JVP also plans to commence awareness programs, black band campaigns, and agitations. (Colombopage)
