The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is to commence a countrywide protest campaign against what the party claims as undemocratic actions of the Government following the murder of two persons at a party meeting in Katuwana, Hambantota last Friday (15). JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said the first protest would be held in Colombo today under the patronage of party seniors.

Protests would also be held in key towns in other districts, he added.

Silva explained that the JVP is currently engaged in a 45 day program where the party is conducting a grass root level campaign on educating the people on the current political situation.  The shooting incident in Hambantota last Friday took place during a meeting conducted under this 45 day program. Silva called on the people to rally against the Government for its failure to uphold democracy and law and order.
