JVP wants all-party task force on UN report

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has proposed the setting up of a task force with members from all political parties to steer the country through the fallout from the UN Experts’ Panel report on Sri Lanka.

JVP Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe told the party’s May Day rally last evening that the task force would address the resettlement process of the war displaced and bring about national reconciliation.

He observed that there was no need for any Sri Lankan government official to be sent to the electric chair as claimed by the government, portraying false patriotism.

Amarasinghe pointed out that a multi-party task force was the way out of the current situation and that the government therefore had a solution to the issue.

According to him, the government has ignored the proposals presented by his party following the end of the war.

Amarasinghe added that the government was now using the panel report to avoid addressing the issues faced by the working masses in the country.
