The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) yesterday stressed boosting human resources in production sector would be an ideal move to avoid the current economic crisis of the country.
Speaking at a media briefing, JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the Government should empower the middle income earners to enhance their production capacity.
“We must use the country’s human resources to produce unique products which can be exported to international market. Those products can be traditional or innovative,” he stated.
Commenting on the JVP’s opinion on economic policy he said it was always remained in the same stance of improving product producing economy in Sri Lanka. “The manufacturing sector contributes more to economy than services. Unfortunately in the last few decades all the Governments came in to power followed same economic policy which mainly focused only on services,” Dissanayake noted.
Drawing comparison between Rajapaksa regime and the good governance, he claimed there were no such improvements in economic status as Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe highlighted.
“The Government has wasted 14 months, but they have been failed to fulfill people’s aspirations as they pledged to do. Wickremesinghe should mind blaming previous administration would not be enough to overcome the economic breakdown,” Dissanayake alleged.
“Wickremesinghe delivered a special statement of new taxation to the Parliament and it has amended the taxation policy of the 2016 Budget passed in last December. It indicated the Government has no sense of prediction. If they had Government would not be adding changes to the Budget proposal presented by Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake,” Dissanayake added. Condemning the suggestion to increase Value Added Tax (VAT) on products and services, he charged it will push more burdens onto the public.
