Karapitiya strike called off after patient protest

The doctors at the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle decided to give up their work strike as a tense situation developed between the doctors and people who had come treatments. According to local media reports the doctors attached to Karapitiya Hospital withdrew from duty this to protest the failure of the Galle Municipal Council to remove the carbonic garbage from the hospital premises. A tense situation had been developed when a group of patients who had come for treatments protested outside the hospital director’s office. Hospital functions except emergency services were crippled due to the doctors’ protest this morning, hospital sources said. Karapitiya Hospital Director Dr. Shelton Perera said the doctors decided to call off the strike after the Galle Mayor in writing agreed to remove the carbonic garbage gradually with effect from today.
