Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella yesterday hit out at United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera, claiming his move to testify before the UN probe was a clear intent to send the Government to the “gallows”. Rambukwella speaking to reporters at the weekly Cabinet briefing criticised the outspoken Samaraweera who on Wednesday revealed he is willing to testify before both the UN investigation and the local commission on disappearances to protect the reputation of the country and “the dignity of security forces”. Samaraweera told media that he would possibly tell the two panels of the activities of LTTE and inform them of the assets that were held by the LTTE and what became of them. The UNP MP said he would also make a disclosure on the LTTE’s Kumaran Pathmanathan (KP) and on the assets held by the LTTE in the coming days. However, Rambukwella insisted that questions over the LTTE assets had been adequately answered in Parliament and any dissatisfaction Samaraweera had on the explanations was purely personal. “These are all things that have been discussed during numerous debates in Parliament. This is merely his view of things or how he wishes things are seen by the rest of the world. He is clearly trying to help our enemies humiliate this country before everyone,” he added. (UJ)
