Korean aid for flood victims

The government of the Republic of Korea and Korean people extended their deepest condolences and sympathies to the victims of Sri Lanka’s recent flood and landslide disaster and wished for the speedy revival and rehabilitation of the affected areas.

Ready to lend a helping hand to Sri Lanka during this difficult time, Korea has decided to provide assistance of $ 100,000 for Sri Lanka’s relief and rebuilding efforts. In close consultation with the Government of Sri Lanka, Korea will make its assistance available to the nation as soon as possible.

Additionally, in a letter to Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera,  the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Yun Byung-se expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the recent floods and landslides.

“I was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of so many lives due to heavy rainfall and landslides in Sri Lanka, and would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to the people of Sri Lanka, in particular the bereaved families,” the Minister stated in his letter dated 19 May.

He further extended Korea’s support and solidarity to the people of Sri Lanka.

“I truly hope that Your Excellency and the people of Sri Lanka will overcome this tragedy soon with strength and resilience. Please rest assured that we in Korea stand together with the people of Sri Lanka during this difficult time,” the Korean Foreign Affairs Minister said.
